Speed to Success With SMED

Led by Master Black Belt David Woods, this half-day workshop is highly interactive and hands-on. Participants work through a live changeover simulation while applying Lean principles in real time — separating internal vs. external work, improving preparation, staging tools and materials, and eliminating waste.

The results during the workshops have been dramatic:
Average changeover reduction: 89%

More importantly, companies are already implementing these concepts and seeing measurable operational improvements.

Engineered Products Pallet Rack applied SMED principles to their roll form changeover process following the February workshop. Through improved organization, point-of-use tooling, standardized setups, and operator-driven improvements, they achieved approximately an 80% reduction in walking time while improving efficiency and engagement on the floor.

Emerson also shared results following the Columbia session. Their team applied Lean and SMED concepts within their Quick Ship actuator assembly operation in Aiken, SC. The effort contributed to reducing manufacturing lead time from 4.5 days to 18 minutes while improving flow, visual management, and operational efficiency.

What makes these results especially powerful is that they were not driven by expensive automation or large capital investments.

If your organization is serious about reducing changeover time and improving operational responsiveness, this workshop delivers practical tools that can be implemented immediately back at your facility.

What would an 89% reduction in changeover time mean for your operation?
